Chamber chairman Arib wants explanation from scouts who have departed | NOW

Chamber president Khadija Arib wants the resigned scouts Annemarie Jorritsma (VVD) and Kajsa Ollongren (D66) to quickly report their talks with party leaders. She also asks the former scouts to enter into a debate with the new House of Representatives. Arib asks for this after the leakage of Ollongren’s notes.

“It has now become clear that the aforementioned notes – whatever their status may be – have raised political and social questions, partly because they contain an elected representative of the House of Representatives by name and surname,” writes Arib. Behind the name of Member of Parliament Pieter Omtzigt was “position elsewhere”, which raises questions for many parties.

Ollongren’s notes were legible on a press agency photo ANP. After that, Ollongren and Jorritsma resigned, but the talks they had with the party leaders of all parties in the House of Representatives are “an inseparable part” of the cabinet formation, says Arib. That is why she still wants an “as complete as possible report” from the scouts. Among other things, they must discuss how they have interpreted and carried out the assignment in the past week.

She also asks Jorritsma and Ollongren to “be available to provide information during a debate if the new House of Representatives so decides”.

Majority of the House of Representatives wants debate, including VVD and D66

A majority of the House of Representatives already announced on Friday that they want such a debate. D66 leader Sigrid Kaag spoke out for the first time about the leaked notes on Twitter on Friday morning. “It is important that all steps of the exploration are transparent. That is why I support a debate with former scouts Ollongren and Jorritsma,” she wrote.

It is remarkable that the largest party, VVD, is also in favor of the debate. Party leader and outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte said on Thursday evening that he does not think that Ollongren needs to justify himself.

Jorritsma and Ollongren have not yet announced whether they want to start a debate. The new House of Representatives will be installed on Wednesday 31 March. It is still unclear when the formation discussions among the new explorers Wouter Koolmees (D66) and Tamara van Ark (VVD) will continue.
