Despite the series of disappointing results from Bayer Leverkusen, Peter Bosz expects to be allowed to stay on as trainer. The ‘Werkself’ suffered a painful 3-0 defeat at relegation candidate Hertha BSC on Sunday and sees a Champions League ticket disappear from sight.
“I am very disappointed,” said Bosz after the failure in Berlin at his press conference. “If you want to win games in football, you have to score and avoid goals. Neither of us did that well. The whole team failed.”
Of the last eight official games, Leverkusen only managed to win one. Bosz’s team was painfully eliminated in the Europa League by two defeats against Young Boys. In the Bundesliga, Hertha BSC, relegation candidate Arminia Bielefeld and SC Freiburg turned out to be surprisingly too strong.
The pressure on Bosz is increasing rapidly, although the Dutch does not seem to be very concerned. When a journalist asked during the press conference whether he will still be sitting on the bench in the next game against finalist Schalke 04, Bosz answered resolutely: “Yes.” He did not elaborate on his position.
Due to the international match period, the game against Schalke is only scheduled on April 3. “Normally I hate not seeing my players for such a long time, but now I think the international match period is coming at the right time. When they return they might bring the freshness they have gained from the national team”. , says Bosz.
In the remaining eight league matches of the season, Leverkusen has to make up seven points at number four Eintracht Frankfurt. Only the top four teams qualify for the group stage of the Champions League. Number five Borussia Dortmund currently has three points more than Leverkusen.
