Blind seems to be seriously injured in Gibraltar: ‘Luckily wasn’t his knee’ | NOW

Daley Blind may have sustained a serious ankle injury on Tuesday during the World Cup qualifying match of the Dutch national team in and against Gibraltar (0-7). The defender left the field with a lot of pain on a stretcher.

Blind seemed to overstretch his knee shortly after the break after a duel with striker Tjay De Barr of Gibraltar around his own penalty area. His right leg slid on the smooth artificial turf, while his left leg stopped and folded. After a few minutes of treatment, Blind was able to get up on his own, but he eventually had to be taken to the changing room on a stretcher.

“Fortunately it was not his knee, but he fell on his ankle and I think he is suffering from that now,” said national coach Frank de Boer after the game against the US. “It is now a while to wait what is left of it. He did not go to the hospital.”

“If Daley is seriously injured, then this will indeed put a huge veil on this evening. But it is not that far yet, we have to wait and see. He was in quite a lot of pain. Let’s hope it is not too bad, because he is an important one. player for us and Ajax. ”

A possible long absence would also mean bad news for Blinds club Ajax. The team from Amsterdam is close to the national title, will play the final of the TOTO KNVB Cup tournament next month and will also play in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
