In the meantime, the Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer announced that a single case in a class would henceforth result in its closure in the 19 departments concerned by the regional reconfinement. But these announcements are insufficient, according to the teachers and epidemiologists met by Europe 1.
SNUipp threatens to strike
For epidemiologist Dominique Costagliola, the situation is untenable. “How do we maintain classes in schools where there are no longer teachers? How do we maintain the canteen while a quarter of staff are positive or in case of contact?” She asks. “It’s nice to say that we’re going to want to maintain the schools, but we can’t do that without staff.”
This observation is shared by SNUipp, the main primary union, which has been threatening to strike in Île-de-France since Thursday. The SNES, the majority union in the secondary, considers the measures taken by the minister insufficient at this stage, and in particular for the college, which does not pass in half-gauge. In Seine-Saint-Denis, secondary school teachers have also exercised their right of withdrawal this week. Only the SE-UNSA welcomes the measures, while regretting that they are too late and limited to the single department.
