US President Joe Biden said on Friday that the United States has invited leaders of China and Russia to hold talks on climate change.
Biden said he had not spoken with the two leaders yet “but they know they are invited.”
A US State Department official told AFP that Biden had invited his Russian counterparts Vladimir Putin and Chinese Xi Jinping to participate in the virtual climate summit on April 22-23.
40 world leaders were invited to this meeting, which is intended to reflect Washington’s return to the front line in combating climate change, after it backed away from commitments under former President Donald Trump.
