Bo Bendsneyder had his best qualifying ever in Moto2 on Saturday in Qatar. The 22-year-old Dutchman secured the third starting spot on the Losail International Circuit.
Bendsneyder set a time of 1.58.959 on behalf of Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team. He only had to put up with the Brit Sam Lowes (1.58.726) and the Spaniard Raúl Fernández (1.58.866).
Until Saturday, fifth place on the grid was Bendsneyder’s best starting position in Moto2. He achieved that performance in Assen last year. In the Moto3, the Rotterdammer already started second in 2017.
Initially, Bendsneyder would no longer ride in Moto2 this year. He was forced to step back to the World Supersport Championship (a global class for 600 cc bikes), but signed with Pertamina Mandalika SAG Team in December.
The first Moto2 race of the season starts on Sunday at 5.20 p.m. The second race of 2021 is also scheduled at the same circuit in Qatar next week.
