Belarus will certainly not be present at the 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in May. The country has been reprimanded by organizer European Broadcasting Union (EBU) for violating the rules surrounding the entry and not submitting a new version on time.
On March 10, the EBU informed Belarusian broadcaster BTRC that Galasy ZMesta’s entry was in breach of the rules. The lyrics of the song Ya nauchu tebya According to the EBU, did not fit into the non-political nature of the singing competition.
Belarus’ Eurovision entry led to a lot of criticism. Residents of the country have been taking to the streets for months to protest against the regime of President Alexander Lukashenko, but the lyrics of the band Galasy ZMesta call for following the established order.
That is why a new number had to be submitted, but according to the organization that also did not match what they had in mind. Because the BTRC did not send a third entry in time, Belalrus will not be coming to Rotterdam in May.
