Bavarian Prime Minister urged to make a decision on the approval of “Sputnik V” in the EU

The Prime Minister of the German federal state of Bavaria, Markus Söder, called for an urgent decision to approve the Russian vaccine against coronavirus infection Sputnik V, so that the European Union has as many drugs as possible to combat COVID-19.

In an interview with the Passauer Neue Presse newspaper, he called the EU’s experience in concluding the first contracts for the supply of vaccines against coronavirus a failure and called for the purchase of additional drugs.

“For example, it is necessary to make a decision as soon as possible on the approval of Sputnik V … The EU should conclude all the necessary agreements as soon as possible in order to obtain as many vaccines as possible,” Söder emphasized.

He recalled that the only way to defeat the pandemic is through vaccination.

Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel did not rule out purchases of Sputnik V in Germany, if a common decision on this issue is not reached in the European Union.

On March 4, the Committee on Medicines for Medical Use of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) began the procedure for the sequential examination of the registration dossier of the Sputnik V vaccine.
