At the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, the exhibition of Evgenia Vasilyeva was considered an “act of vandalism”

A number of teachers, professors, as well as students and graduate students of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts named after Repin called the exhibition of works by Evgenia Vasilyeva “an act of vandalism.”

An open letter demanding “to immediately remove from the Museum of the Academy of Arts all the works of the honorary member of the Academy of Arts Evgenia Nikolaevna Vasilyeva” addressed to the rector of the university, art critic Semyon Mikhailovsky, was signed by more than 300 teachers, professors and students of various faculties.

A graduate of the academy’s graduate school Dmitry Selivanov on his Facebook page said that he had handed the document over to the addressee, as well as to the directorate of the Scientific Research Museum.

“I want to thank all those who were not afraid and put their signatures under our open letter … We did everything we could,” Selivanov said.

The collection of signatures was launched on Saturday, March 13th.

The exhibition of Evgenia Vasilyeva entitled “Spring” opens at the Museum of the Academy of Arts on March 17. In the fall of 2015, Vasilieva became an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts.
