Bulgarian officials said yesterday that an Air France plane, which was on its way from Paris to New Delhi, made an emergency landing at Sofia Airport, last Friday, due to the behavior of a passenger.
An official at the National Investigation Agency, Evilo Angelov, said that an Indian passenger began to act aggressively shortly after take-off, as he quarreled with other passengers and attacked a flight attendant, and his aggressive behavior prompted the flight captain to seek an emergency landing in Sofia.
The man was removed from the plane and charged with endangering aviation safety. If convicted, he will face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, and the plane resumes its flight to New Delhi.
“We are investigating his actions and motives,” Angelov told reporters. “There is no reasonable explanation for his behavior.”
