According to the Auvergne newspaper, this 45-year-old man took refuge in his home in Lanobre, in the north of the department, armed with a hunting rifle. The intervention group of the national gendarmerie (GIGN) is then called in as reinforcement. Initial negotiations were unsuccessful, the man firing several times even leaving his home during the evening to target the gendarmes who then retaliated.
“He was injured but we didn’t know because he had shut himself up in his house. We found him afterwards.”, told AFP the gendarmerie. Hit in an arm and a leg, he was hospitalized.
The mayor of the commune had indicated to The mountain that the latter, “determined” and who would live a difficult separation, wanted “make the headlines Sunday morning”. An investigation is underway.
In December, a man entrenched in the Puy-de-Dôme had killed three gendarmes by shooting at them, before being found dead. In January, another had been killed in Savoy by GIGN gendarmes after having shot them.
