The woman was not sentenced to life imprisonment.
The District Court of Eastern Uusimaa has sentenced a mother accused of murdering her child to ten years in prison.
According to a state of mind survey conducted for the mother, she was reduced to guilt at the time of the act.
The court found that the reduced guilt had affected the act so significantly that the woman could not be sentenced to life imprisonment, which is normally imposed for murder.
The verdict is not final.
The 22-year-old woman reported the crime in Kaivoksela, Vantaa, on April 29, 2020 to the police themselves. By the time the police went to the woman’s apartment building early in the morning, the 2-year-old girl had already died.
During the interrogation, the woman told the police about the events, and the police got an idea of the motive for the act. It suspected that there was a stable judgment behind the killing work.
