France has Friday 94,275 dead due to Covid-19 since the start of the epidemic in the country. In intensive care units, the bar of 4,800 patients is approaching, according to the latest data published by Public Health France. The pressure therefore continues to increase on hospitals.
The number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care continued to increase on Friday, approaching the 4,800 people mark and even closer to the record for the second wave in the fall, according to the latest data published by Public Health France. The resuscitation figure has been rising steadily since the lowest recorded on January 7 (2,573 patients). It reached 4,766 on Friday against 4,709 the day before, and is progressing towards the second wave record which was 4,903 on November 16.
Hospitals keep filling up
In the last 24 hours, 476 patients entered intensive care against 408 the day before. The total number of people hospitalized in France with a positive Covid-19 diagnosis stands at 27,242, with 2,048 new admissions in the last 24 hours.
In total, 897 new deaths were reported on Friday, this figure including deaths in hospital but also in nursing homes and other medico-social establishments over several days. Since the start of the epidemic, 94,275 people have lost their lives to the disease in France. “The epidemic dynamic is strong”, underlined the Minister of Health Olivier Véran during a press conference Thursday.
