Bulgaria will not take part in NATO exercises due to coronavirus in crew


Bulgaria will not take part in the international NATO exercise Poseidon 21 in the Black Sea due to cases of coronavirus among the crew members of the ships, said the Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Security Krasimir Karakachanov.

“The information is correct, we notified our Romanian colleagues about the existing difficulties a week ago. Five people fell ill with coronavirus in the crews of our ships, ”TASS quotes him.

The chief of staff of the Romanian Navy, Mihai Panait, previously said that Bulgaria had refused to participate in NATO exercises due to problems related to the coronavirus.

On February 27, NATO exercises Poseidon 21 started in the Black Sea, in which more than 700 soldiers from Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, Romania, the United States, Turkey and France were supposed to take part.
