Tamaulipas, the state with five soccer teams and none of the Primera

The Development League would increase the Tamaulipas account without having soccer of the highest category.

It is no secret to anyone that soccer is by far the most popular sport in Mexico. That is why a long list is needed to know all the teams that make life in the national territory, because almost every corner of the Republic has representation in some category .

One of the entities with the largest amount of equipment is Tamaulipas , something that is not surprising due to its important territorial extension. However, incredible as it may seem, the northern state currently has no team participating in the First Division of Mexican soccer.

Among the most important teams, stand out Tampico Madero and UAT Roadrunner , who are currently competing in the Ascenso MX and dream of making the leap to the Maximum Circuit. In the 2019 Opening, the Jaiba Brava was eliminated in Liguilla, while the Oranges finished bottom.

Below, specifically in Series A, equivalent to the Third Division, there are other clubs such as Atlético Reynosa , Matamoros hawks and Autonomous University of Tamaulipas . Teams that, for the moment, are extremely far from competing at the highest level of professional soccer.

Tamaulipas has been without a team in the First Division for 25 years . The last ones were precisely Tampico Madero and Correcaminos UAT, who ended up descending at the end of the 1994-95 season. The dream of returning is still intact, despite the changes in the Ascenso MX. Now with the creation of the Development League and the elimination of the promotion, the northern state will increase the count without Liga MX.
