Sixty Days to Search for Mohr: Real Expectations of Rescue Success

On the seventh day of searching of the expedition of Chilean Juan Pablo Mohr, Pakistani Ali Sadpara and Icelandic John Snorri, who have been missing since last Friday in the K2 (8,611 meters above sea level), the weather gave some truce to the mission. However, there are still no real results that indicate the fate of the mountaineers, pending the analysis of satellite images provided by the Icelandic Space Agency.

In the midst of all this process, Moirah Ahmad, wife of Sadpara’s manager and an active participant in the mission, posted a video on YouTube detailing the entire plan and the true expectations of success. Sadpara is a national hero of his country and his disappearance has generated the reaction of the authorities at levels that he had never seen before.

Thus, for example, the government of Pakistan announced that the search will last 60 days, whatever happens. It was confirmed by the Minister of Tourism, Sports and Culture of the Asian country, Raja Nasir Ali Khan. In this regard, the spokeswoman for the group that is following the steps of the expedition commented: “Even if it is searched for 60 days, it will be an intelligent search, which means that with the technology we have, if we see something that could be them, we will go to that area ”. On it, he clarified that “It must be taken into account that at some point the mission will cease to be a rescue mission and will become one of recovery.”

The question everyone is asking is where are Mohr, Sadpara and Snorri. Also what are the real options for success. Is it worth going to the top of K2? On this, Ahmad explained: “It is unnecessary to think that we must go to the top to search for them. Because the reality is that if they are at the top, they are not alive. And if they are not alive, there is no rush. Our rush is that if they are alive, we have to rescue them as quickly as possible (…) And for them to be alive, they would have to be below 7,800 meters. So no one needs to get to the top. “

Regarding the expectations of finding them alive, the representative of the rescue mission acknowledged: “One always hopes that a miracle can happen, but at this point I remain realistic. I hope the miracle, yes, but realistic, because sometimes you have to be that way. On the other hand, I remain hopeful, because we have seen incredible things happen before. Why not think that this could be one of those?
