Four railway officials are going to India on February 22-24 to discuss the implementation of various plans, including the operation of passenger trains from Dhaka to Siliguri and five freight interchange railways. Divisional Railway Manager (Pakshi) Shahidul Islam is leading the Bangladeshi team. He said that this is a discussion of Bangla Indo DRM level in Katihar division of India.

Shahidul Islam said on Saturday, “Basically, we are going to visit India on February 22 with some of our demands.” Discussions will be held here on March 26 to allow the Prime Minister of India to run a direct passenger train from Dhaka to Siliguri. We will also discuss and request the launch of the long-closed Thata Maitri and Bondhan Express trains due to Corona. In addition, we will discuss the 5 freight interchange points through Benapole, Darshana, Rahanpur, Chillahati and Biral-Radhikapur so that no problem arises. He also said that we will talk about some more problems of Pakshi division at DRM level.
Shahidul Islam said the meeting will discuss the operation of trains from India to Bangladesh. Besides, the issues of passenger train service from Dhaka to Siliguri will be discussed.

However, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said that every year, railway officials of different levels in Bangladesh and India meet twice on various issues. One such meeting is scheduled to be held in Siliguri this month under the leadership of ERMEN of Katihar Division. The meeting will be held on 22-24 of this month. Here we will discuss the movement of passenger trains from Dhaka to Siliguri. We will propose whether the passenger train service from Dhaka to Siliguri can be started from March 26. The railway minister said everything was still not normal due to the epidemic. Friendships and ties have been closed for a long time, the issue is related to passengers. There will be messages talking about everything.

Meanwhile, after being closed for more than half a century, trains resumed from Chilahati in Bangladesh to Haldibari in India on December 16. On the day of the inauguration of the railway, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said in Chilahati that freight trains would run between the two countries for the time being. With the consent of the two countries, plans have been made to run passenger trains from Dhaka to Siliguri from March 26.

It is to be noted that the Chilahati-Haldibari railway has played an important role in communication since the British period. From Darjeeling to Kolkata via Khulna, several passenger and freight trains used to run regularly on this railway. It was closed in 1965 after the war between India and Pakistan. Later on December 16, the line was activated by launching a freight train.
