Circulating Fake Masks, President Jokowi Requests for Standardization

4 – President Jokowi wants a standardization of a mask product used by the community to ward off the corona virus or Covid-19.

“Pak President wants a standardization of making masks that people use to meet health standards,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto in a virtual press conference, Wednesday (3/2/2021).

The main purpose of standardizing these masks is to reduce the transmission of the corona virus and of course protect the community itself.

“So of course it will also be effectively used to ward off Covid-19,” he said.

Previously, Mariya Mubarika, the Health Personnel Protection Sector for the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, revealed that the circulation of fake medical masks was one of the factors that caused many health workers in Indonesia to be exposed to COVID-19.

Mariya Mubarika said that during the monitoring of the Task Force, there were several cases of transmission among health workers caused by wearing non-standard masks.

“Now many masks are found without antivirus coatings, so fake masks are very difficult for medical personnel to prove whether they are genuine or not,” said Dr. Mariya in a virtual press conference from the BNPB Building, Jakarta, Tuesday (2/2/2021).

Apart from fake masks, other factors that cause health workers to be exposed include; fatigue or burnout, contracting in the home or social environment, and low immunity.

“25 percent of global data for medical personnel are infected from their social and family environment, so there are many factors,” he said.
