In Panchagarh, three women and a child of the plaintiff were beaten in the court premises. In one of their cases, the court denied bail to the two defendants and ordered them to be sent to jail. The accused men beat the three women and a child of the plaintiffs in the court premises.
The injured women said that on February 4, a clash broke out between the family of Maksher Rahman and neighbor Ajirat Islam in Tunirhat Baniapara area of Panchagarh Sadar Upazila over cutting the stalks of a tree. Several members of Makchedur’s family were injured at the time. On February 10, Makshedur became the plaintiff and filed a case in the court in the name of 7 people including Ajirat. When the accused surrendered before the court on Tuesday and applied for bail, the court denied bail to two accused named Ajirat and Royal and directed to send them to jail and granted bail to the rest of the accused. When the court denied bail to the two main accused and ordered them to be sent to jail, the people on the accused’s side became angry. Anwar Hossain, his wife Shruti Begum and his sister Rubina Khatun beat up three women and a child. At one stage they were injured and fell to the ground in the court premises. After some time, the police engaged in the court rescued them and admitted them to the hospital. Police arrested a woman named Rubina Khatun (33) from the accused’s side but the others escaped. A case is being registered at Panchagarh Sadar Police Station.
Azima Khatun, wife of the injured woman and plaintiff Makshedur Rahman, said, “We were present in the court today as the case was being heard.” As we were leaving the building after the court denied bail to the two main accused, Anwar, his wife Shruti and his sister Rubina dragged us to the court premises and beat us in front of everyone. They didn’t even leave my disabled daughter. We were screaming but no one came forward. Later the police rescued us and admitted us to the hospital.
Panchagarh court inspector Maqbool Hossain said, “We rescued them as soon as the incident took place and admitted them to the hospital.” At the same time one woman has been arrested. We have informed the Panchagarh Sadar Police Station about the matter and now they will take legal action.
Panchagarh Sadar Police Sub-Inspector Mostafizur Rahman said a woman was detained in the incident. A case is being filed in this regard at the police station.
