Adriana gives a bronze scream – Juventud Rebelde

The Pan American Speed Skating Championship passed without pain or glory for the Greater Antilles since last February 4, taking place at the Ibagué Sports Park, in Colombia. However, on Saturday night, the eve of the end of the tournament, Cuban Adriana Cantillo broke the silence around the contest by winning the bronze medal in the one hundred meter circuit route.

As announced by the digital newspaper Jit, the young skater rose to the podium thanks to a meritorious work that began in the qualifying phase, achieving 11,100 seconds, which constituted a new record for the Island, surpassing the previous record of Haila Brunet from Spiritus.

In the semifinals she stopped the clocks at 11,023, and in the decisive race she surpassed herself by achieving a time of 10,977, a mark with which she fell behind two Colombians who have already savored the glory of being world champions among seniors and youth: Geiny Pájaro and Sheila Muñoz.

The girl rolled better than many extra-class skaters, including the Chilean María José Moya, holder of the world and the Pan American Games in Lima 2019.

But what is relevant about Adriana is not only the precious metal that from now on will adorn her showcases, but also that her medal made Cuba return to a podium in the women’s sector, after 27 years of absence.

The lid, welcomed in coffee land complying with strict security protocols due to the new coronavirus, brought together more than 1,400 athletes from 18 nations, which included the United States, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Venezuela, Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Bolivia and Paraguay, together with the headquarters and Cuba.

The Antillean team that performed in Ibagué, Tolima, was also made up of Amanda García, and among the men under 23 years old Richards Díaz and Héctor Caballero competed. The boys, in addition to good results in their presentations, sought to qualify for the I Pan American Youth Games in Cali-Valle, until now agreed for September 2021.
