Horse Racing Tips & Best Bets for Flemington and Caulfield.

A huge start to the year with meetings at #Flemington and #Caulfield. I’ve found five bets I’m keen on to kick off what can only be a better year for everyone.

TRALEE ROSE (#Flemington #Race 3 #No 5)

I was against this promising #Symon #Wilde trained staying mare last start when she was jumping from 1800m to 2500m, but she showed her potential as a stayer as she handled the jump with ease and was storming through the line like a horse that was going to thrive over even longer trips. #She’s still on the up after just the four runs in a near perfect prep and I think the 5kg pull in the weights is too much for those at the top to be giving to a couple of promising stayers on the rise. #Craig #Williams takes over and should have her a touch closer from the inside gate, she’s the one to beat with #Miyake the quinella horse. BET: WIN

RIDING THE WAVE (#Flemington #Race 5 #No 1)

#No surprise the early odds are gone but I’d still be keen to back this #Lindsey #Smith-trained sprinter at the $4.60 available. A former #Kiwi in his first local prep, he was a strong winner two back on #Ballarat #Cup day and I thought he ran well last start at his first go up the #Flemington straight where he wasn’t suited exposed up on pace, yet he still fought on to beat everything but the airborne #Defiant #Dancer. #Better for the run up the straight, in extremely well with the 3kg claim and drawn to get a perfect smother to save his big sprint for the last 300m. #Back to this grade, he has to go close. BET: WIN

HASSELTOFF (#Flemington #Race 7 #No 5)

I think we might get better than the early $3.50 but if not I’m still keen to be with this lightly raced gelding. #He’s thriving for the in-form #Robbie #Griffiths and #Mathew de #Kock stable having had no luck two starts back before jumping a few grades last start and storming home to just miss in a very similar race. #He loses nothing with #Jamie #Kah taking over and does no work in the run from the inside gate, he’s only going to keep improving with racing and may be a bit more seasoned than the promising #Nikau #Spur coming off a maiden win. BET: WIN

ZION (#Caulfield #Race 6 #No 8)

I can’t imagine the $6 lasts for this #Ciaron #Maher and #David #Eustace trained son of #Rubick. #He was impressive winning his maiden first-up at #Bendigo with three winners already coming out of that race and he should have won last start at #Flemington where with hindsight #John #Allen would like the ride over. #Chasing the unbeaten #Written #Miss, he got lost when hooking sideways at the 500m and only balancing up closer to the 150m he stormed home to just miss. #Drawn for a perfect run no worse than midfield, if he gets clear air from the home turn, he can go over the top of these. BET: WIN

SWORD OF MERCY (#Caulfield #Race 8 #No 9)

#At the better odds with the pull in the weights I’m keen to stick with the flying #Sword #Of #Mercy after she was good to us first-up. #She took an amazing eleven starts to win her maiden but she’s a different mare now having won four of her last seven and I think the win first-up showed she might have gone to another level this time in. #Sitting right on pace up the straight, she exploded clear and was still charging through the line for a dominant win. #Jamie #Kah will ride her a bit quieter from the wide gate off what looks a strong speed, she’ll be storming over the top of them late. BET: WIN
