Boris Johnson signs post-Brexit deal

#British #Prime #Minister #Boris #Johnson on #Wednesday signed the post-Brexit trade and cooperation agreement with the #European #Union (EU), which will be provisionally applied from #January 1.

#Johnson hailed on this occasion, “an excellent deal for our country” which will mark “the start of a wonderful relationship between the UK and our friends and partners in the #European #Union”. The #Presidents of the #European #Council, #Charles #Michel, and the #European #Commission, #Ursula von der #Leyen, also signed the agreement earlier today. “The agreement we signed today is the result of months of intense negotiations in which the #European #Union has demonstrated an unprecedented level of unity. #It is a fair agreement and balanced which fully protects the fundamental interests of the EU and creates stability and predictability for citizens and businesses, ”said #Michel.

The post-Brexit deal will then be reviewed by the #European #Parliament and the #Council of the EU before being officially ratified by the #European #Union. #For their part, #British deputies approved by a large majority the text which must be promulgated by #Queen #Elizabeth II before it enters into force.
