Gana Gueye’s PSG beats OM (2-1) and wins the Champions Trophy

Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions Trophy by logically dominating (2-1) Olympique de Marseille on Wednesday evening in Lens. Despite his absence from the scoresheet, Senegalese Gana Gueye has started 2021 well with this title.

A Classic for the Champions Trophy. In these complicated times for Ligue 1, this cannot be refused! Especially when you think of OM’s victory in the league at the Parc des Princes this season. For PSG, now coached by Mauricio Pochettino, it was time for revenge in Lens this Wednesday evening. Despite Mbappé’s first acceleration and Icardi’s header off target, the capital club struggled in the first minutes to destabilize the Olympian rearguard. OM, with Payet in false number 9, held the high pudding in the Parisian armada but did not create particularly opportunities. Paris started to pick up the pace after 20 minutes of play and forced the Olympians to make more and more mistakes. PSG scored two goals rightly signaled offside.

Quite closed but not uninteresting, the match was definitely started by Icardi’s goal, perfectly found by Di Maria in the middle of the box. The head of the Argentine, between two Olympian defenders, deceived Mandanda, who let slip the leather (1-0, 39th). Icardi was very close to the double by sending a mine on the bar just before half-time, after a good pass from Mbappé.

When they returned from the locker room, AVB replaced Mandanda, who was hit, by Pelé and took Payet out of the center of the attack and placed Radonjic there. Then he replaced him with Benedetto. But OM did not manage to be really dangerous despite some interesting situations. PSG for its part, played at a rather quiet pace. At least until Neymar came into play in the 65th minute, in place of Di Maria. The Brazilian was making his debut in Pochettino’s PSG and found an OM that had failed him earlier in the season. And he fell very quickly again on Alvaro, who collected a yellow card for two fouls in a few minutes number 10. For the rest, despite everything, there was not much happening offensively for the two teams. It was again Icardi who brought some action by escaping in the 83rd minute and going to cause the fault of Pelé. Penalty for PSG, transformed by Neymar (2-0, 85th). The Ile-de-France club had done the hardest part, but saw OM reduce the mark in the 90th minute. Thauvin centered, launched on the right by rookie Pol Lirola, immediately towards Payet who subtly regained his right foot and deceived Navas (2-1, 90th)! OM regained hope and put pressure during additional time but without success. PSG therefore wins this new Classic, which leads to its first title of the season.
