A head-on collision that occurred at around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday on route 132 left two victims in Carleton-sur-Mer, in Baie-des-Chaleurs.
The Sûreté du Québec unveiled the identity of the victims on Thursday morning. They are Noëlla Gendron, 64, from Nouvelle and Christiana Landry, 62, from New Richmond. The investigation is still ongoing to find out the cause of this collision.
For the moment, the causes of this face-to-face remain unexplained. The Sûreté du Québec dispatched an expert on Wednesday in reconstruction of accident scenes to understand the cause of this collision which occurred on Perron Boulevard, in the municipality of Carleton-sur-Mer. A mechanical examination will be performed on the vehicle that has deviated from its path. The drivers were alone in their vehicle.
The emergency call was received around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday. Under the force of the impact, the two drivers remained trapped in their vehicle.
“It was the firefighters using the jaws of life who took them out of the cockpit,” informed agent Claude Doiron, spokesperson.
“They were taken to the hospital from the place where unfortunately their death was found,” he added.
“We can not put forward a hypothesis for the moment,” continued Mr. Doiron.
Route 132 was still closed in the area at the start of the afternoon. Traffic is directed to a bypass on St-Onge Street. A mechanical examination will be performed on the vehicle that has deviated from its path. The drivers were alone in their vehicle.
