NHL: 22 players sidelined due to COVID-19 protocol

As its season got underway on Wednesday night, the National Hockey League (NHL) unveiled a list of 22 players from 16 different teams who are currently following COVID-19 protocol.

These players include Nikolaj Ehlers of the Winnipeg Jets, Mikko Koivu of the Columbus Blue Jackets and James Neal of the Edmonton Oilers.

Not all players on this list can train, travel or play. They have either tested positive for the virus, are showing symptoms and are awaiting their result, comply with a mandatory quarantine, or are isolated since they are at high risk of having been infected by another person in their circle.

The NHL will forward a daily list of players who must follow COVID-19 protocol throughout the season.

The multiple cases among the Dallas Stars, who have 17 players infected with the virus, have not been counted. The Texan organization will update the situation before the first game of its season.
