Three-player private Canucks

Forwards JT Miller and Jayce Hawryluk, as well as defenseman Jordie Benn did not accompany their Vancouver Canucks teammates to Edmonton, where the BC side will play their first game of the 2020-21 campaign.

“All I can say at the moment is that these players are not available,” general manager Jim Benning said on Tuesday in an interview with Sportsnet. We follow security protocols and will have more information to share tomorrow [mercredi]. That’s where I’m going to leave it for now. ”

Recall that Sunday, the Canucks were forced to cancel their training, and this, out of caution due to potential exposure to COVID-19.

On Monday, head coach Travis Green said the cancellation was caused by a false positive diagnosis for the virus. Miller practiced with his teammates on Monday but was out of practice on Tuesday as Benn missed both sessions. For his part, Hawryluk has not skated since leaving the ice on Saturday after a fall.

While Benn and Hawryluk can be replaced easily enough in the Canucks roster, Miller cannot.

The latter was Vancouver’s leading scorer in 2019-2020, having amassed 27 goals and 45 assists for 72 points in 69 games.

In his absence, it was Jake Virtanen who occupied his place on the first line along with Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser.

The Canucks face the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night at Rogers Place.
