Le Matin – Two Casablanca students win an international architecture competition

#Alaa #Halifi and #El #Yazid #Boudraa, two 5th year students at the #Casablanca #School of #Architecture, won the first prize in the competition, initiated by the #Pittsburgh 2020 platform, on urban equity in environmental health, in collaboration with the #University of #Pittsburgh, #Pennsylvania.

#This competition aims to push the boundaries of how to establish equity in environmental health and place it at the center of the urban planning debate. #For too long, poor communities have been located in unhealthy and more dangerous living environments than richer communities. The current #Covid-19 pandemic both accentuates and worsens the existing health inequalities in the city, and reveals new problems.

The competition saw the participation of young architects and students from all over the world. #An international jury made up of architects, town planners and academics therefore selected three winners. The winning #Moroccan project has taken from #Casablanca an urban experimentation ground.

“The winning (W) #Heal + submission is conceptually sound and flexible in many ways. The project is well thought out and designed and addresses health equity and an immediate need. The proposal is a holistic approach formulated by an interdisciplinary group and it is strong in the 4 criteria of the competition: an original vision, the implementation of an urban strategy, the quality of the factual design, and the integration of several disciplinary fields “, commented the jury.
