The #Perth #Scorchers secured their long-awaited first win of the BBL season as they bounced back from a demoralising loss on #Monday to outplay the #Adelaide #Strikers by seven wickets at #Adelaide #Oval tonight.
#Heading into the crucial match, pressure had never been greater on coach #Adam #Voges after the embarrassing 71-run loss to the #South #Australian side three days earlier.
#But the #Scorchers provided the required response to move off the bottom of the ladder.
The emphatic victory at was set up by a frugal bowling display, with strike bowler #Jhye #Richardson (3-30) being the standout.
#Richardson bowled the first over instead of his usual second after #Jason #Behrendorff (0-22), setting the tone with the huge scalp of #Phil #Salt (4) in the first over.
#Another inspired captaincy call from #Ashton #Turner saw young all-rounder #Aaron #Hardie (2-21) deliver immediate success after being trusted with bowling the third over.
#Former #Test batsman #Matt #Renshaw (19) built what looked to be a threatening 48-run partnership with captain #Alex #Carey, before throwing away his wicket to leave his side in a vulnerable position at 4-73.
#After #Carey brought up his half-century off his 42nd delivery, he looked to accelerate in an innings that otherwise lacked intent. The left-hander was given a life on 69 when #Fawad #Ahmed (1-21 off three) put down a simple chancesfrom a wide #Andrew #Tye yorker (1-35 off three).
The drop proved to be costly as #Carey took 10 runs off the next two balls.
#Hardie, 21, was called upon to close out the innings, conceding just eight runs off the final over as the #Strikers limped to 9-146.
#In reply, #England import #Jason #Roy (49) ensured no repeat of the last-start horror show by helping #Perth to a fast start, taking the bulk of the strike.
#He and compatriot #Liam #Livingstone (eight), combined for a 57-run opening stand before #Wes #Agar (2-15) removed the pair within three balls.
A startling sense of déjà vu crept in after #Colin #Munro (six) became the third wicket to fall in quick succession, but a composed fourth-wicket partnership steered #Perth home.
#Veteran #Mitch #Marsh (38 not out) and #Josh #Inglis (44 not out) applied themselves to the task and they reached the target with 14 balls to spare courtesy of their 67-run partnership.
The victory was a great relief for the team ahead of four consecutive home matches at #Optus #Stadium.
“We owed it to our fans to put a performance like this on the board,” #Richardson said.
