“It is clear that the teaching profession, which was already suffering, is even more so today because of the pandemic”, indicated the president of the FAE, Sylvain Mallette, worried that the shortage of staff is ‘amplifies by Christmas.

The FAE, which brings together nine unions representing nearly 49,000 preschool, primary and secondary teachers, in particular, is asking Quebec for money so that people are hired to perform disinfection and surveillance tasks.

According to the survey, 78% of respondents say they have to spend time disinfecting their room and the educational tools they need to teach while 70% say they waste time supervising the washing of their students’ hands.

Mr. Malette recalled that the government as well as school service centers and school administrators are responsible for providing a safe working environment for its employees.
