The Regional Express Train (TER), planned for passenger transport between Dakar and Blaise-Diagne International Airport (AIBD), will be put into service “in the coming months”, assured the President of the Republic on Tuesday.
“Our country will experience, in the coming months, a very modern development of urban transport, with the start of the Regional Express Train, which has caused a lot of water to flow under the bridges. But it will start soon, please God, in 2021 ”, declared Macky Sall during the closing of a presidential council on the revival of the Senegalese economy.
The TER will constitute “the backbone of transport in the Senegalese capital”, according to APIX, the government agency in charge of major works and state investments.
It will ensure the transport of thousands of passengers per day, between Dakar and the AIBD – nearly sixty kilometers which will be covered in forty-five minutes for each rotation.
The work, which started in 2017, is not yet completed, but part of the work was accepted in January 2019 by Macky Sall.
The cost of TER is the subject of considerable controversy. The State, certain media and civil society organizations advance very varied amounts, concerning this work considered very expensive by many Senegalese.
