(Washington) US President Donald Trump reads the notes sent to him by the intelligence services, the White House assured Tuesday in response to questions about his attitude in a case involving Russia.
According to New york times, American intelligence has become convinced that Moscow has distributed bonuses to insurgents for killing American soldiers in Afghanistan. However, these elements appeared in a written note sent to the president at the end of February, according to the daily.
The White House has been hammering for several days that the president was not briefed on this affair, raising questions about his degree of implication in these sensitive files and the attention he pays to the confidential documents which are transmitted to him .
“The president is reading,” said Kayleigh McEnany, spokesperson for Donald Trump during his press briefing.
“He is constantly informed and briefed on intelligence matters,” she added.
“The president is the most knowledgeable person on planet Earth regarding the threats we face,” she said.
The White House says there is no consensus on the case in the intelligence community.
Democratic congressional leaders have asked CIA director Gina Haspel and US intelligence director John Ratcliffe to brief all members of the House and the Senate as soon as possible on this matter.
“We need to know if President Trump has been informed and if so when,” said Chuck Schumer, leader of the Democratic minority in the Senate.
With Donald Trump, “all roads lead to Putin,” for his part launched the Democratic President of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.
The suspicion against him finds its source in his pre-electoral promise of an uplift in relations with Vladimir Putin, but also on the suspicions of collusion between the Kremlin and his campaign team which poisoned a good part of his mandate.
