Samsung Canada Launches Unmatched 8TB Consumer SSD 870 QVO – Samsung Newsroom Canada

Building on Samsung’s first consumer QLC drive, the upgraded second-generation 870 QVO drive offers terabyte capacity and excellent performance

Samsung Electronics Canada today introduced its four cell level flash drive (Quad-level cell, QLC) of the second generation, the SSD 870 QVO SATA, setting a new standard for high-capacity consumer storage. With a peak capacity of up to eight terabytes (TB),[1] the new SSD offers an uncompromising blend of speed, storage capacity and reliability for consumer and professional PC users.

In the past, consumers had to choose between SSDs (which offer higher performance) and hard drives, which traditionally offer greater capacity. Samsung’s 870 QVO SSD is however capable of reliably offering the best of both worlds, making it an optimal choice for performance-oriented and value-oriented consumer PC users as well as business users who need high capacity levels.

“After the launch of Samsung’s first consumer QLC drive, the 860 QVO, in 2018, we are launching our second generation QVO SSD which offers a doubled capacity of 8 TB as well as increased performance and reliability”, emphasizes Dr. Mike Mang, vice-president of the “Memory Brand Product Biz” team at Samsung Electronics. “The new 870 QVO will allow more consumers to take advantage of the performance benefits of an SSD with capacities similar to those of a hard drive.” “

The 870 QVO offers excellent sequential read and write speeds, up to 560 MB / s and 530 MB / s respectively[2], with Intelligent TurboWrite disk technology, which allows it to maintain peak performance levels thanks to a large variable SLC buffer[3]. The 870 QVO also offers a 13% improvement in random playback speed[4] compared to the 860 QVO, which makes it ideal for everyday computing needs, such as multitasking, gaming, and web browsing. The renewed Data Migration and Magician 6 software offers a host of improved and additional features, making it easier for users to upgrade, manage and optimize their SSDs.

In addition to its peak capacity and performance, the 870 QVO offers exceptional endurance of up to 2,880 terabytes written (TBW), or a three-year limited warranty[5].

The 870 QVO is available in 1 TB, 2 TB, 4 TB and 8 TB models, and will be available from June 30, 2020[6] starting at $ 179.99 for the 1 TB model (manufacturer’s suggested retail price). For more information, please visit
