A typical treatment of five days would include six vials, equivalent to US$ 2.340 per patient, ” said Daniel O’day, president and chief executive officer of Gilead Sciences, in the letter. “As with all our actions on the remdesivir, approached this with the goal of helping the greatest number of patients possible, as quickly as possible and the most responsible. This has been our point of reference, from working to find quick answers about safety and effectiveness, to increase the manufacturing and donating our supply of remdesivir until the end of June. In each case, we recognized the need to do things differently to reflect the exceptional circumstances of the pandemic. Now, as we transition beyond the period of donation, and set a price for remdesivir, the same principle applies,” said O’day in the letter.

The remdesivir, which currently is given intravenously through infusion, it is the only drug which has an authorization of emergency use of the Food and Drug Administration de EE. UU. to treat the infections by coronaviruses. Until now, the treatments with remdesivir had been donated to the government of the united States and assigned by the Department of Health and Human Services and U.S. states. However, the last scheduled shipments of the government of EE. UU. of that donation will go out this Monday.

“At the level that we have evaluated the remdesivir and with the government programs implemented, together with the additional assistance of Gilead as necessary, we believe that all patients have access,” said O’day. “Gilead has signed an agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services, U.s. (HHS) by which HHS and the states will continue to manage the allocation to the hospitals until the end of September. After this period, once the supplies are less restricted, HHS no longer manages more assignment.”

“The president, Trump has secured half a million treatments remdesivir until September,” said Random to George Stephanopoulos of ABC.

“This is the medication that if you’re hospitalized, you can reduce the duration of your stay by a third and we are working with our states to ensure that it arrives to the hospitals most in need,” said Random. “We are experiencing outbreaks of very serious in many of the counties in the southern united States”.
