Editor-in-chief Florian Harms’ newsletter

Good morning dear readers,

Today I can give you the commented overview of the topics of the day. And I start with a song.

WHAT WAS?

“How lucky can one guy be? I kissed her, and she kissed me.” La la la la la. I love Robbie Williams’ version of this old hit. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here you can listen to the song. But be careful, the melody can quickly become an earwig. Williams’ musical detour into the world of swing had done me 19 years ago. Since then, I have often let myself be sprinkled by other of his songs, as they are an expression of the lightness of being that one is only too happy to wish for.

My view of Robbie Williams changed a few days ago and to blame are two interviews on YouTube (here and here). In it he explains, among other things, that he thinks a lot of the British conspiracy theorist David Icke and its messages. A global conspiracy is underway in the anti-Semitic world of thoughts of ex-football professional and successful author Icke. Behind it are supposed to be elites who – and Icke is really serious – come from extraterrestrial lizard beings.

Robbie Williams also spoke about the in the interviews “Pizzagate” theory. It says that influential figures – including Bill and Hillary Clinton – maintain a large child porn ring. An exacerbation of this is the claim that children are kidnapped and tortured to get out of their blood a rejuvenating substance to win for the rich and powerful. For Robbie Williams, these are all things that should be seriously considered.

The fact is, all of these claims have no basis. My colleague Lars Wienand had already dealt with this nonsense a few weeks ago. The confused theories come either from high-earning conspiracy authors, dubious YouTubers or anonymous authors on the Internet who want to discredit certain people, groups of people or viewpoints, for example. There is no evidence that this was not invented or deliberately taken out of context.

In addition to Robbie Williams, there are a number of celebrities who have become believers in conspiracy or at least have obvious problems distinguishing between fantasy and truth: Xavier Naidoo, the rappers Sido and Fler, the singer Senna Gammour and of course the ex-TV chef Attila Hildmann, to name just a few.

Xavier Naidoo: The singer reported in tears in spring that children being held were being released from the hands of pedophiles worldwide. The alleged action never took place. With her countless fans, with her TV appearances and YouTube interviews, With hundreds of thousands of followers on Facebook and Instagram, celebrities are powerful multipliers. Her word has weight, her behavior is exemplary. They are figures of identity whom one likes to believe and trust. This results in responsibility, not just towards the fans, but towards society as a whole.

If stars like Robbie Williams don’t live up to that responsibility, if they slip into bizarre fantasy worlds and swagger publicly about them, the answer must therefore be: Stay away from the superspreaders so that the conspiracy virus does not skip.

WHAT’S UP?

The basic account is intended to enable people with little money to do elementary banking. The Deutsche Bank requires 8.99 euros per month for this, certain services still cost extra. The consumer advice centers find this too expensive and have sued. The Federal Court of Justice announced its verdict on Tuesday.

Since the introduction of the minimum wage in 2015 Union and employer representatives meet every two years to discuss an increase. The current lower wage limit is 9.35 euros per hour. The Commission will meet on Tuesday for its crucial meeting and will then present a joint proposal. The Federal Government has to decide on the increase.

Despite the sometimes massive criticism from the federal government and other countries In Bavaria, all people in Bavaria should be allowed to have the corona virus tested for free, even without symptoms. The cabinet of the Free State wants to approve the corresponding test concept on Tuesday.

Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU), Railway Director Richard Lutz and other representatives from the railway industry and associations sign the “rail pact” in Berlin. Their “master plan for rail transport” is intended to strengthen rail transport in Germany in order to make it more reliable and environmentally friendly.

At an international Syria video conference organized by the EU and the United Nations On Tuesday, among other things, it will focus on aid efforts for the civilian population and ways of promoting the peace process. Donations are also collected.

WHAT TO READ

As part of the Corona outbreak at the Tönnies slaughterhouse the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia circulated address lists of all employees there, research by my colleague Jonas Mueller-Töwe has shown that. The document was distributed to hundreds of nursing homes on instructions from the Ministry of Health. The state data protection officer is now checking the facts. It has the potential for a tangible scandal.

They are among the risk groups in the corona pandemic and sometimes feel lonely due to the strict protective measures: Seniors in nursing homes suffer particularly from the corona crisis. Ailine Lehmann has been working as head of nursing at the German Red Cross since July 2015. In conversation with my colleague Sandra Simonsen she explains how relatives can help and what she wants from politics.

The former Bundesliga dino Hamburger SV has for the second time in succession the safe promotion in the last second division games in the sand – and is once again showered with derision and ridicule. Meanwhile, the club’s loyal and long-suffering fans are asking: Will HSV ever move up to the Bundesliga again? My colleagues Florian Wichert and Robert Hiersemann disagree.

—–

Undefeated in calendar year 2020, only two losses in the entire season: Arminia Bielefeld deserves promotion to the Bundesliga as champion of the 2019/2020 second division season. But how did the sensational march come about? My colleague Dominik Sliskovic investigated the matter and with the Bielefeld club icons Jörg Böhme and Ansgar Brinkmann also looks at the first league suitability of East Westphalia.

WHAT AMUSES ME?

Holidays in Corona times are different.
