Because film releases from several blockbusters are delayed, the reopening of Austria’s largest cinema operator is also being delayed. Instead, a drive-in cinema is opened.
The reopening of all Austrian Cineplexx locations originally planned for mid-July is postponed to August 5. The reason is the renewed postponements of major film releases.
The premieres of previously announced blockbusters such as “Mulan” or Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” have been postponed again. They will only start in Austria when important markets in Europe and the USA reopen their cinemas.
“Without this so important film content, we cannot operate our large locations economically,” explains Christian Langhammer, head of Constantin Film & Cineplexx cinema companies. “We are also very sorry for the delay for our visitors, of course we feel great anticipation for normal cinema operations.
As planned, at least further program cinemas will open in mid-July: the Stadtkino Villach on July 15th, the Geidorf cinema in Graz from July 17th. The two locations Urania and Actors opened again on June 11th.
Retro drive-in cinema in Wels
Cineplexx also opens a new drive-in cinema in Wels. The “Car Cinema”, it is the second drive-in cinema of the Cineplexx group next to the Graz drive-in cinema, is to be opened on July 10th in retro style on the grounds of Messe Wels. The open-air cinema is in the style of the 50s and 60s designed and decorated, the look of the employees included. The classic start is with the classic “Grease”. But also modern films like “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “A Star is Born”, “Joker” “are part of the program.
