Bundesliga: Austria wins qualification group – sport.ORF.at

Johannes Tartarotti (27th) brought the Vorarlbergers in the lead, but after the change of sides, Austria made the turn with goals from Maximilian Sax (57th) and Bright Edomwonyi (79th). Before the final round on Saturday, the Favoritner are now five points ahead of Altach. Austria can spare forces at home against Mattersburg as well as the Vorarlbergers, who are guests in St. Pölten.

Austria managed to kidnap a win in the Cashpoint Arena for the first time since October 2015 or seven league games. After the desolate 2: 5 against St. Pölten at the weekend, Christian Ilzer’s team returned to winning ways.

Altach tour after starting problems

The Austria tried early to set accents. Christoph Monschein lost the ball on the way to Martin Kobras (4th), Vesel Demaku, who was attacked in attacking midfield, narrowly missed the bar from eleven meters (23rd). Altach initially acted too imprecisely in the attack, when the Vorarlbergs increased in accuracy, but the purple back team was immediately challenged.

Patrick Pentz defused a conclusion from Sidney Sam, but three minutes later Austrias goalkeeper had to reach behind. Emir Karic and Manfred Fischer combined effortlessly towards the goal, the likewise uninhibited Tartarotti pulled out of the ambush.

Three “jokers” secure Austria victory

The Altacher then controlled the game, Austria got stuck. Bitter for the Altachers was the loss of Fischer, who had to leave the field after half an hour with muscular problems in the thigh. Karic was also struggling with thigh problems. The left-back stayed in the cabin during the break and Sam was also spared.

Austria started better again. With the Sax substituted for Demaku, the Viennese acted more aggressively – and rewarded themselves. Thomas Ebner lifted the ball onto the sax that was still excluded in the first leg in Vienna, who completed volley in the penalty area. The Altacher struggling for compactness only came back to the fore after an hour. Frantz Pangop should have taken the 2-1 shoot when, after Marco Meilinger’s preliminary work, he appeared completely free in front of Pentz, but shot the Austria goalkeeper (62nd).

So Austria turned the game thanks to a co-production of two “jokers”. Patrick Wimmer refueled past three Altachers into the penalty area, Edomwonyi used safely. Altach missed Christian Gebauer’s huge chance of 2-2 in the final seconds.
