Bregenz. Intendant Elisabeth Sobotka now wants to set “A strong artistic sign of life” in Vorarlberg. After the Bregenz Festival was canceled due to the corona, the newly launched Bregenz Festival will take place from August 15th to 22nd.
A virus did not want to be brought to its knees, said Sobotka at the program presentation, and so one wanted to offer something with the festive season “that shows us and still does not pretend that everything is good again”.
The new and probably unique cultural event will be opened programmatically with “Alles wieder gut”, a song recital by the Musicbanda Franui and bass baritone Florian Boesch. Sobotka was particularly pleased that in the current situation, the premiere was successful. Lubica Cekovska’s “Impresario Dotcom” was originally to be premiered this summer at the Kornmarkttheater and is now coming to the big stage of the Festspielhaus in a shorter version. The play is almost ideal for the current situation, since it deals with the subject in a ludicrous way: How close can you get to me?
There are also four concerts, an aria evening and two evenings with music and poetry. It concludes with an orchestra concert by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, which will be heard for the last time under chief conductor Philippe Jordan in Bregenz.
All events take place in compliance with the applicable hygiene regulations. Around 6,500 tickets are expected to be available for the festive season.
There are guided tours so that the floating stage is at least not completely deserted this summer.
