“A Comedy Genius”
Los Angeles (dpa) – The US Director Carl Reiner’s dead. Reiner, who had worked for decades as an actor and as a legend in the Comedy industry, died on Monday at the age of 98 in Los Angeles, said his assistant, Judy Nagy, the industry magazine “Variety”.
“Last night my father died,” wrote the son of Rob Reiner, also the Director, on Tuesday in the short message service Twitter. “As I write this, my heart aches. He was my role model.”
Numerous colleagues and Fans mourned the news of the death of Carl Reiner on the Internet. “Good-bye, my greatest Mentor in film and in life,” wrote actor Steve Martin. “Thank you, dear Carl.”
Actor Jason Alexander wrote, Reiner was a “wonderful man” who had lived a “wonderful life”: “Carl Reiner was a Comedy genius. Often, this genius has made other people even funnier. But if you gave him a stage, he was able to make the most of every Moment a Laugh. I’ve been watching it again and again. His contribution to Comedy will always have inventory.”
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo condolences to the family and wrote, Reiner’s Comedy was timeless. “He has brought America to the Laugh – a real gift.”
Reiner was born in 1922, as a child of Austrian immigrants in New York. He served after school, in the military, became an actor and later Director. He also invented in the USA in the 60s, a very successful Sitcom “The Dick Van Dyke Show”.
Great success as a Director, he is celebrated, among other things, “Oh, God…” (1977), “wealth is no shame in it” (1979) and “Solo for 2” (1984). As an actor, he had, among other roles in the caper Comedy “Ocean’s Eleven” and its sequels, as well as in numerous other films and television series. Up to a high age Pure worked, among others, as a dubbing artist for cartoon movies.
In 2000, Reiner was honored with the Mark Twain prize for Humor the Kennedy center in Washington. In 2017, he immortalized together with his son Rob’s hands and feet in Hollywood in cement in front of the Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. In doing so, he revealed his favorite movie: “The Princess bride”, shot in 1987 by Rob Reiner. “Every time it goes poorly, one must look at “The Princess bride” and then smiles again.”
In addition to Rob, who was also in “when Harry met Sally”, had Carl Reiner, Estelle with his 2008 deceased wife two more children. Recently Pure had commented on Twitter, even to his family: “Nothing pleases me more than to know that I have lived the best possible life, I have met the talented Estelle (Stella) Lebost, and married, which has brought with me, Rob, Annie and Lucas Reiner in this vulnerable and ever-changing world.”
