Le Matin – The pandemic continued to accelerate this week

#An important indicator, however, the number of cases diagnosed only reflects a fraction of the actual number of infections and comparisons between countries should be taken with caution, as testing policies differ from one country to another. #This week, developments may also have been disrupted by the #Christmas holidays. The strongest decline is observed in #Azerbaijan (-57%, 1,300 new cases per day), ahead of #Croatia (-51%, 1,200), #Bulgaria (-48%, 700), #Hungary (-43%, 1,600) , #Georgia (-33%, 1,600) and #Belgium (-30%, 1,800). The #United #States is by far the country with the highest number of new infections this week, with 186,600 new cases daily, ahead of the #United #Kingdom (40,500) and #Brazil (36,200). The trend is improving in the #United #States (-12%) and #Brazil (-22%), but deteriorating in the #United #Kingdom (+ 20%). #As a proportion of the population, excluding micro-state, #Lithuania is the country with the most cases this week (666 per 100,000 inhabitants), ahead of #Panama (521), the #Czech #Republic (516), #Montenegro (433) , the #United #Kingdom (417), #Sweden (409) and the #United #States (395). #Of the 26 countries with an incidence rate above 200, 22 are #European.
