Scorchers defeat Strikers, Alex Carey brilliance, Perth first win of the season

The #Perth #Scorchers have taken it to the final hours of 2020 to claim its first win of the 2020-21 BBL season with a seven wicket win over the #Adelaide #Strikers.

#After a 71-run loss earlier in the week with the BBL bubble tossing up some odd fixtures, the #Scorchers were on top from the outset, needing only to get past #Strikers skipper #Alex #Carey for the win.

#Early wickets saw the #Strikers down 2/16 off 2.3 overs as #Carey came to the crease to hold the innings together.

#His 82 off 59 balls with 12 fours and a six got the #Strikers to 9/146 but he was the only #Adelaide batsman that looked at all comfortable in the middle.

#Matthew #Renshaw’s 17-ball 19 and #Danny #Briggs with 10 off eight balls were the only other players to make double figures.

#Former #Australian bowler #Jhye #Richardson was the pick of the bowlers with 3/19 off four overs with #Aaron #Hardie taking 2/21 from his four as well.

“Every time they looked like getting a partnership going, someone got out and made #Alex #Carey pull back a little bit,” #Brad #Haddin said. “If he had someone go with him, maybe they could have got to that better total. #But they weren’t allowed to tonight, the bowlers strangled them. #Alex #Carey played a really good knock but everyone else struggled with the quality of the bowling.”

The #Scorchers then got off to a belter with #Jason #Roy seemingly farming the strike and hitting a 32 ball 49 before a leading edge undid all his good work.

#But two balls later, #Liam #Livingstone went for a late cut while on eight off 13 balls but it went too fine, with #Carey showing off his athletic ability with a stunning grab.

The #Australian white-ball wicketkeeper #Carey showed off his skills, with the one handed catch.

“What a beauty,” #Brendan #Julian screamed.

“That’s what you want to see, it got me out of my seat,” #Brad #Haddin added. “Big nick, watched it all the way. #Alex, you deserved that, well done.”

#Kerry O’#Keeffe added: “That’s a hanger. #Past him, pouched.”

#Perth then claimed the #Bash #Boost with a four on the last ball of the 10th over before #Rashid #Khan caught import #Colin #Munro LBW in front for six.

#But it was the last joy for the #Strikers as #Josh #Inglis finished up on 44 not out off 31 balls and #Mitchell #Marsh hit a 24-ball 38 not out as the pair guided the #Scorchers home.

#It was a necessary win for the #Scorcher who move off the bottom of the ladder and a win behind the #Melbourne #Stars in fifth ahead of a four-game home swing in #Perth.

#Both teams play again on #Sunday afternoon with the #Scorchers hosting the last-placed #Renegades and the #Strikers hosting the #Sydney #Sixers.

#Alex #Carey hit 82 off 59 with the bat but has arguably turned the game with the gloves having taken a stunning catch to dismiss #Liam #Livingstone.

#After the openers guided the #Scorchers to 57 without loss, #Agar’s seventh over was very successful with both going in three balls.

#First #Jason #Roy was dismissed for 49 off 32 balls after having most of the strike with a leading edge his undoing.

#But two balls later, #Livingstone went for a late cut while on eight off 13 balls but it went too fine, with #Carey showing off his athletic ability with a stunning grab.

#It takes #Agar to the top the ladder and from a comfortable 0/57, two new batsmen were at the crease.

#But #Josh #Inglis and #Colin #Munro had to guide the side to the #Bash #Boost point with a four on the last ball of the 10th over.

The #Strikers have been led by a lone hand with #Alex #Carey taking charge with 82 off 59 balls.

#Matthew #Renshaw (19) and #Danny #Briggs (10) were the only other batsmen to pass to 10.

#It leaves the door open for the #Scorchers to claim its first win of the season.

#So much revolves around #Alex #Carey who has had to slow down to carry the team.

The #Strikers are 5/106 from 15 overs and #Carey has played a lone hand with 55 from 44 balls.

The #Adelaide #Strikers are in a precarious position after 10 overs after #Jono #Wells was run out.

#Alex #Carey hit the ball straight to #Jason #Roy and took off, leaving #Well stranded as he was run out by a long way.

#It leaves #Adelaide 4/75 after 10 overs with #Alex #Carey still around for to keep the #Strikers going.

“#What are they doing?” #Brendan #Julian asked in commentary.

#In the final balls of the over, there was almost another wicket as another mix up almost saw another dismissal.

The game appears to be pretty even at this point.

The #Perth #Scorchers are still without a win this season but they’re in the best position they’ve been all season.

#After a 71 run pasting earlier in the week, the side has bowled first again but with three wickets in the first eight overs, the side is looking a bit better.

#Aaron #Hardie has 2/7 off 2 overs as the pick of the bowlers.

#But the #Strikers are setting a bit of a platofrm at 3/68 off nine overs, with plenty resting on if #Alex #Carey can stick around.

#He’s currently on 32 off 23.

They were 2/16 after two wickets in the powerplay.

#Ahead of the final game of 2020 between the #Adelaide #Strikers and #Perth #Scorchers, #Cricket #Australia have revealed that #Australian representative spinner #Adam #Zampa has been suspended for a match.

#He will miss the #January 2 match between the #Stars and #Hurricanes after he accepted a charge of “audible obscenity” in the #Melbourne side’s 75-run loss to the #Thunder.

#After bowling a short ball, #Callum #Ferguson hit the ball deep into the outfield with one of his teammates misfielding a ball to give away a four.
#Zampa appeared to say “f*** me”.

#In a BBL statement, it was revealed that “#Zampa was found guilty of a #Level 1 offence under the #Cricket #Australia #Code of #Conduct and accepted a penalty of one suspension point and a $2500 fine.”
