About fifty countries have started to vaccinate

#About fifty countries have already started their vaccination campaign against the new coronavirus, barely a year after the first alert launched by the #Chinese authorities to the #World #Health #Organization.

– #China from summer –

#China, the cradle of the pandemic, was the first country to start vaccinations this summer, when no vaccine was yet formally authorized, while reserving the doses for the most exposed populations (employees and students visiting abroad, caregivers, etc.). #To date, nearly five million #Chinese have been vaccinated, while #Beijing has just authorized this #Thursday the marketing of a first vaccine, developed by #Sinopharm.

#Russia followed on #December 5, starting to vaccinate populations at risk with #Sputnik V, developed by its #National #Epidemiology #Center #Gamaleya. #Since then, this vaccine has notably been approved in #Belarus and #Argentina, which began their vaccination campaign on #Tuesday. #Algeria plans to follow suit in #January.

– The #United #Kingdom, first in the #West –

The #United #Kingdom, meanwhile, was the first country to authorize the vaccine created by the #American-German alliance #Pfizer-BioNTech. #Its vaccination campaign began on #December 8 and nearly 950,000 people had already received the first of two doses of the vaccine by #December 27, according to official figures released #Thursday. The country is also the first to approve #AstraZeneca-Oxford’s vaccine on #Wednesday. #It will be injected in the #British from #January 4.

#In the #West, #Canada and the #United #States began to vaccinate on #December 14, #Switzerland on the 23, #Serbia on the 24, almost the entire #European #Union last weekend, #Norway on #Sunday and #Iceland on #Tuesday. #All with the vaccine from #Pfizer-BioNTech.

The #United #States and #Canada are also the first two countries to have authorized the vaccine of the #American #Moderna, which could be approved on #January 6 by the EU.

#Some 2.8 million #Americans have already received a dose of the vaccine. #In the #European #Union, which started later, it was #Germany that carried out the most injections (more than 130,000 in five days).

– #Israel engaged in a sprint –

#In the #Middle #East, the #United #Arab #Emirates were the first to launch their campaign with doses of #Chinese #Sinopharm on #December 14 in the capital #Abu #Dhabi. #Also in the #Emirates, #Dubai started vaccinating on #December 23 with #Pfizer-BioNTech doses.

#Saudi #Arabia and #Bahrain started their campaign on #December 17, #Israel on #December 19, #Qatar on the 23rd, #Kuwait on the 24th, #Oman on #Sunday. #All these countries only inject #Pfizer-BioNTech doses for the time being, except #Bahrain where the #American-German vaccine is alongside that of #Sinopharm.

#Israel, embarked on a sprint to immunize a quarter of its population in one month, has already injected nearly 800,000 doses, #Bahrain nearly 60,000 and #Oman more than 3,000.

#Turkey, meanwhile, has received doses of #Chinese #Sinovac and plans to start vaccinating in mid-January.

#In #Latin #America, #Mexico, #Chile and #Costa #Rica were the first countries to launch, on #December 24, with #Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines.

#In #Asia, #Singapore started its vaccination on #Wednesday with the same vaccine. The other countries of the continent are in no hurry: if #India, #Japan and #Taiwan plan to start in the 1st quarter, the #Philippines and #Pakistan will wait for the 2nd quarter, #Afghanistan and #Thailand by mid-2021.

#In sub-Saharan #Africa and #Oceania, it is not yet time for vaccination. #Guinea-Conakry, which began injecting the first 60 doses of #Sputnik V on #Wednesday before deciding whether or not to launch its campaign, is a pioneer.
