#Finances #News #Hebdo: #You won the presidency of the CAVB hands down. #What do you think this plebiscite is due to?

#Bouchra #Hajij: #First of all, thank you for your interest in sport in general. #Let me point out to you that the word “plebiscite” bothers me a bit. #When one compares an election to a plebiscite, there is a pejorative connotation, insofar as it is regarded as a device which does not leave a free choice to the voters, as if one forcing the hand to the voters. #Certainly, the victory was overwhelming with a strong majority of 42 countries against 12 for the outgoing president. #But we must recognize that the credit goes to certain presidents of federations, but also to a group of #African leaders who have decided to manage the affairs of the #Confederation with effective governance and transparent and healthy sports management.

#It is also the result of a concerted strategy between the different national federations who wish to bring about change in the top management of our institution and encourage work-study training and democracy. I will never forget the mobilization of the federations around my modest person. #Admittedly, this is not the campaign that we had planned at the beginning, as we were not able to complete the tour of all areas due to the pandemic. #But we were still able to continue our meetings by videoconference. #This victory is the fruit of a strategy and a reading of #African leaders who have hit the nail on the head. They were faced with the choice of the most suitable president for the development of the #Confederation.

FNH: #Does the CAVB currently have sufficient financial and technical resources to enable you to carry out your program?

B. H. : #Today, the CAVB depends only on the grants received by the international federation. #To sustain our activity, the urgency is to find funding. #It is now a priority. #Varying our financial resources is also important so as not to depend solely on the FIVB grant. #In this, changes are necessary, namely:

• #Be able to raise funds according to our needs;

• #Be able to use digital technology to optimize the search for funding;

• #Train the leaders of national federations in sports marketing and, more generally, in the management of sports organizations.

• #Create a marketing and investments department. #Income from investment contracts and agreements will be used to financially support #African countries. The aim of this proposal is to seek to increase the financing capacity of the CAVB.

• #Signing of contracts with international companies and sponsors, such as #Mikasa, and certain clothing companies for referees, administrative assistants, players, or any new company and sponsor.

FNH: #What are the recurring problems facing volleyball on a continental level? #What about women’s volleyball?

B. H. : #African volleyball is going through a period of unprecedented crisis, marked by numerous conflicts which slow down its development and for which we are responsible for not having been able to avoid them in time, either by the absence of a visionary leadership at the head of our institution or for lack of resources. #To this end, we have set up an action plan for the promotion and development of volleyball and beach volleyball which is structured around 7 sectors: administration and finance; training and development of technical skills; sports equipment and facilities; organization of competitions; promotion of volleyball and beach volleyball; preparation of high level players; and diversifying sources of funding and seeking sponsors.

FNH: #During your mandate, did you plan to focus on issues such as the infrastructure deficit, supervision, etc.?

B. H. : #Increasing aid for equipment to promote access to sport for a large number of people in #Africa is also one of our priorities. #We must make access to volleyball and beach volleyball a right for everyone. #Volleyball should be used as a tool to promote peace, well-being and community development. #National sports federations, schools and municipalities need materials to make our sport more popular. #Indeed, several #African countries do not yet have appropriate and regulatory sports facilities.

#Only a limited number of countries organize and host regional and continental competitions. #In addition to our #African partners, we intend to create an assistance partnership with #African and global sponsors so that they actively participate in the development of volleyball and beach volleyball sports equipment and facilities in #Africa. #We will support projects that will be proposed to our institution and we will commit to:

• #Promote the system of donation of balls and materials offered by our partners and sponsors intended to promote volleyball and beach volleyball in schools and municipalities.

• #Support partnership projects between national federations, the #Ministries of #Sports and #National #Education as well as the municipalities, aimed at creating play areas and the construction of outdoor sports facilities and indoor halls.

• #Support partnership projects between federations that manage indoor sports (volleyball, basketball and handball), aimed at building multi-sports halls in #Africa, in partnership with international federations.

• #Support cooperation and development projects for sports facilities initiated by #African #States, in collaboration with #National #Volleyball #Federations.

• #Communication with the sports authorities of the national federations to ensure their support.

FNH: #Do you plan to make or create partnerships with other countries which have a certain know-how in order to raise the level of volleyball in #Africa, especially in this period of health crisis?

B. H. : #My observation of the reality of volleyball in #Africa contrasts with the place it deserves, where it really struggles to keep up with the pace set by the top world level. #My biggest ambition is to raise the level and take volleyball to the top in #Africa. #My action plan will be based on participatory management, by the involvement of all the national federations and all the actors concerned, especially since the strong competitive potential of our continent and its countless talents are just waiting to be revealed to the eyes. of the world. The results achieved by the #African teams at the #Olympics, the #World #Volleyball and #Beach #Volleyball #Championships show that the continent is progressing slowly, as it is still eliminated in the first round.

#Access to the quarter-finals remains quite complicated for #Africa. #However, many players of #African descent, playing abroad, honor sport and volleyball around the world. #To remedy these constraints, we plan to take initiatives, in particular the organization of forums and workshops to reflect on the development of volleyball and beachvolley in #Africa by international experts; the creation of a framework for inter-confederation cooperation and development, mainly with #Asia and #Europe, allowing exchanges and sharing of knowledge between #Africa and the other continents; the establishment of exchanges and the sharing of inter-federal knowledge; and the creation of a high-level #African training center intended to prepare the best teams on the continent.

FNH: #After your election, the #Sovereign sent you a message of congratulations. #How do you feel about this?

B. H. : #To be the first #Moroccan, #African woman, president of a confederation is an honor for me and for all #Moroccan women. #It is an immense joy and a strong sense of pride when I received the congratulations of #His #Majesty, may #God assist him. #For me, it was a blessed day, I am happy and honored by this high distinction. #It is also a very great responsibility that I take on today. I would like to reiterate my gratitude, on my own behalf and on behalf of all components of #African volleyball, and express my deferential wishes to #His #Majesty #King #Mohammed VI, praying the #Almighty to assist him in his noble mission for glory and greatness of our nation.

#Bouchra #Hajij, a woman of challenges

#Passionate about sports and volleyball, #Bouchra #Hajij continues her little path. #Elected by 42 votes against 12 (out of 54 federations), she replaces the outgoing president, the #Egyptian #Amr #Elwani, at the head of CAVB for 30 years! #Bouchra #Hajij is also a member of the #Association of #African #National #Olympic #Committees (ANOCA) and of the #International #Olympic #Committee (IOC). #She endorsed the colors of the national team for 20 years and won important titles, including the #African #Cup of #Nations, the #Arab #Championship or a 3rd place at the #Mediterranean #Games … #Woman of challenges, #Bouchra #Hajij intends to give more opportunities for women to better express themselves in the field or in positions of responsibility. A leader for 18 years, the native of #Meknes is now setting herself new challenges: raising the level of volleyball at the national and continental level. A wind of renewal is blowing… on the CAVB.
