COVID-19 test on arrival: airlines navigate in fog | Coronavirus

They deplore not having been consulted or informed of the details accompanying this new health measure, the criteria of which must be unveiled during the day by the #Minister of #Transport of #Canada, #Marc #Garneau.

#We have a measure here which is completely improvised, without any consultation with the airlines and which will pose problems of implementation., warns #Christophe #Hennebelle, vice-president, human resources and public affairs for #Air #Transat, in an interview with RDI #Matin.

#Travelers will soon have to take a COVID-19 test, less than three days old, before entering or returning to #Canada, #Intergovernmental #Affairs #Minister #Dominic #Leblanc said on #Wednesday.

#This new restriction is expected to come into effect as early as next week. #All passengers must then present their negative COVID-19 test certificate before boarding a plane bound for #Canada. The measure has already been adopted by a hundred countries for several weeks.

#We have been asking for the implementation of rapid tests in airports for months, which we have not heard from, in particular rapid tests which would make it possible to adapt the quarantine, said #Christophe #Hennebelle, deploring the heavy financial losses suffered by his company since the start of the pandemic.

#He also mentions that airlines which are also tour operators are obliged to accompany their customers, a responsibility complicated by the vagueness surrounding the advertisement.

#We will do everything we can so that our customers can have access to these tests, he argues. #We are in contact with the authorities in the #South.

#We are looking for solutions so that our customers have access to these tests, but we are not sure that this is possible. #We are afraid that our customers will be stranded at their destination.

#Dominique #LeBlanc, however, clarified that these new health precautions will not replace mandatory quarantine, the flagship measure implemented by #Ottawa, he argues, because the latter effectively prevents community transmission of the virus on arrival in #Canada. and dissuades many vacationers in their plans for stays.

#As for travelers who left without knowing that this test was going to be compulsory and who find themselves stuck at destination, #Dominique #LeBlanc reminds that #Ottawa has never ceased to alert them to the probable changes in health measures during the pandemic.

#Those who have not been able to obtain a test will be subject, upon arrival in #Canada, to be quarantined in a center designated by the federal government at their point of arrival., he explains to RDI.

There is no question of taking a connection or going to another destination; individuals will be required to remain on-site at a federally approved center supervised by federal government officials until the test is obtained in #Canada.

#As the holiday season approached, #Ottawa had gone to great lengths to dissuade people from traveling. #An advertising campaign costing $ 850,000 advised #Canadians to stay at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
