A project led by SDL Souss-Massa: 9.9 million DH for the rehabilitation of the Sahara Cinema

#Threatened with demolition, the #Sahara cinema, one of the mythical monuments of the city of #Agadir, is today the subject of a rehabilitation project led by the #Local #Development #Company (SDL) “#Agadir #Souss-Massa #Aménagement »#For a total amount estimated at 9.9 million DH.

#To do this, the latter recently launched a call for tenders for the choice of a service provider who will carry out the rehabilitation works of this cultural structure. The opening of the bids is scheduled for #Tuesday, #January 19.
#Located in the heart of the city of #Agadir, in this case the #Talborjt district, the #Sahara #Cinema represents one of the most famous cultural and historical monuments of the renaissance city, even if its doors have been closed since several years, and suffers in silence like the other dark rooms of the #Kingdom today almost neglected.
#Recently acquired by the #City #Council, this room has already been the subject of a petition drawn up by the local associative fabric and which has been signed by hundreds of people to save and empower this building dear to the heart of the #Gadiris, and which opens the appetite of speculators and property developers to transform it into a residential project, especially since it covers more than 3,000 m2.
#Note that the city of #Agadir is currently devoid of cinemas dedicated to the 7th art, the most recent to have lowered the curtain is the #Rialto cinema, which has been almost at a standstill since 2012 and only rarely opens its doors to the occasion of certain major cultural events including the #Cinema and #Migration #Festival, as well as during a few rare exceptional events, to the dismay of film art enthusiasts in the city of #Agadir who are hoping for better days.

#While the #Salam cinema located between the industrial district and the rue de Fès represents the oldest cinema hall in the city of #Agadir, it was built in 1946 and is part of the local cultural heritage. #Its 1,200 m² of surface area and its very particular tunnel-shaped architecture withstood the 1960 earthquake when the surrounding buildings were destroyed.
#As a reminder, the #Agadir #City #Center project under construction will include a #Megarama multiplex with seven cinemas.
The opening is scheduled for #June 2023. #Covering an area of 3,500 square meters, the #Agadir #Megarama will be accompanied by a bowling alley and a games park. #This project will certainly fill the void from which the city of #Agadir suffers in this area. The project is carried out by the promoter #Al #Maghribia #Lil #Istitmar in collaboration with the #French group #Megarama.
